Acro Yoga once seemed very mystical to me. I assumed that acro yoga was designed only for the flexible, strong circus-type of yogis. But I wanted to push my boundaries, so I tried out the June Yogi Jedi Workshop with Yogi J Miles.
J Miles returned to the cute 532 yoga studio in Alexandria, VA to teach us the basics of flying and basing. He unlocked the 3 key Acro Yoga secrets for flying bodies into the sky.
In order to really grow, you must start with a solid foundation. The “base” in acroyoga is designed to support the “flyer”. Rooting your lower back into the ground, firming up the legs and building the core will help your flyer feel more free to spread her wings!
Acro yoga requires that you get up close and personal with your partner. The secret is to observe each other’s strengths and weaknesses so that you can work together to create your own masterpiece.
Acro Yoga was born out of a performance and restorative based yoga system. There are no set rules or guidelines. You can experiment with poses as long as you keep your body in alignment.
Acro Yoga is a beautiful way to bring a group closer and break down barriers. After the workshop, everyone felt really relaxed and more receptive to experimentation.
Unlike most yoga classes where you stay on your mat and inside yourself, AcroYoga demands that people connect, collaborate, fall, make mistakes and get back up again!
