Don’t come at Taheera Tucker the wrong way. She will fiercely let you know, “Yoga is not my hobby, it is my way of life!”
The model, businesswoman and now social worker moved to DC from Pittsburgh to pursue her passion in helping children solve difficult emotional issues.
The demand and impending burnout of the social work field led her to the yoga mat. But unlike most yogis who start off in hot yoga or in a vinyasa flow, Taheera was drawn to the most challenging and structured style of Ashtanga yoga!

Taheera working with Ashtanga Master David Swenson
Ashtanga is Sanskrit for the 8 limbs of yoga. The style focuses on a very regimented practice (Mysore) that starts at 6am. Taheera‘s love for Ashtanga has taken her across the United States to study with yoga’s most famous Ashtanga teachers.
She says she is drawn to the Ashtanga practice because of the structure, discipline and intense focus on accuracy. But now she has chosen to share her foundation with the community east of the Anacostia River. Taheera will teach an Ashtanga-inspired class to help you move through obstacles in a joint program for the Soulful Flow Yoga May series starting Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 7pm.
Yogis will get to enjoy my signature “Soulful Flow” on Mondays and a “Soothing Body Alignment Yoga” with Taheera on Wednesdays. Registration is $60 for the entire series or $15 for a drop in!
