June 11, 2012
Life east of the river gets a little brighter with the DC SOLAR FLARE solar festival at HD Woodson High School on Saturday June 16, 2012 from 9am-4:30pm. One of the many guest speakers will include Ward 7’s Dennis Chestnutt of the advocacy action group Groundwork DC.
The event is being organized by DC SUN (DC Solar United Neighborhoods). Their mission is to see people spend money saving the planet instead of spending money on their pepco bill. DC SUN is working to make solar energy available to all income levels in the district through grants, coops and events like DC Solar Flare.
Even our little Ward 7 has a Ward 7 Solar Cooperative to discuss how to make solar technologies work in our every day lives. This is a major step forward for Ward 7. As gas and oil prices increase, we will need access to more innovative and affordable ways for an environmentally conscious lifestyle.
The full schedule of events is listed here http://www.dcsolarflare.com/about/program-of-events.
