The Hot Honey Chicava Brown will show off her body skills at The Red Palace on H Street NE for the Brown Girl Burlesque Soul Train vs. Solid Gold. DJ Natty Boom will control the sounds during the two show performance on March 30, 2012.

I met up with Honey Chicava last year at the Belly Dancers of Color Conference. Her workshop forced us to release any fears by channeling our inner exhibitionist. She highlighted Eartha Kitt and Josephine Baker for their bravery to take black burlesque performances to new levels. Chicava’s workshops combine an academic analysis of race, gender and bodies with the practical implementation of sensual movement and performance.

Honey Chicava and the Brown Girl Burlesque troupe will perform the modern art of burlesque playing up themes on black women’s dance legacy and sensuality. The event will include some innovative performances and a chance to celebrate the dance memory of the 80’s classics Soul Train and Solid Gold.
