It’s time to counteract all the negative press about black girls. We can spark a new discussion and highlight the positive and powerful health programs for girls in DC and beyond. I found four local DC leaders stepping up to make the world a better place for black girls!
Faith Hunter continues to prove that yogis can be spiritual, selfless and business savvy with her new Spiritually Fly Change Makers initiative in Haiti.
The program is a collaboration between Faith Hunter, the Project Zen yoga studio, led by Lizandra Vidal and a partnership with the Haiti Adolescent Girls Network. Faith’s team will train girls in Haiti to create change by learning about their health through the power of yoga.

Vanessa Garrison and Morgan founded Girl Trek to empower women to start a “walking revolution”.
They knew that obesity was a problem and wanted to find a way to motivate girls by literally taking small steps. Co-founder Morgan Dixon recently presented at The Clinton Foundation on why black women and girls will win the war on obesity. (Starts at 30:30)
Dana Hunter started the So Lady Like Charm School to help everyday girls learn to appreciate their natural beauty.
She brings girls together to make handmade bath & body products, natural bath salts, sugar scrubs, & organic sachets. This fun & unique workshop promotes natural ingredients, plants, essential oils and creations inspired by nature. What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. Recommended for girls ages 8 & up and adults of all ages.

Three years ago I started a youth summer wellness program called Mind Right & Body Tight. I wanted to offer youth a holistic alternative to summer camp that focused on health.
This summer Anacostia girls can enjoy a two class workshop for girls ages 6-10. Email sari@anacostiayogi.com
The kids had no idea what yoga was or why they should try it , but they practiced yoga and loved it.
This summer, the program is back with a focus on girls ages 6-10. Each participant will learn to use yoga as a tool to fall in love with their bodies. Funded by Diverse City Fund and Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative.
